IN THE MATTER of one CHONG TONG HIS

SHEWETH as follows:

Your Petitioner formerly Compradore and subsequently Agent

of the firm of Alex Ross & Co., (China) Ltd. in Swatow and the

proprietor of the Cheang Hua Company of Hong Kong is the lawful

father of Chong Tong Hie (Tony Chuang).

On the 21st day of March 1946 the said Chong Tong Nie in

company with Chai Cheng Yu was indicted for robbery and possession

of arms before the General Military Court and on the 24th March

1946 convicted of the said offences and sentenced to 3 years

and 5 years simple imprisonment, sentences to run concurrently

and 12 strokes of the cane.

Your Petitioner rendered every assistance in his power tɔ

the Police with regard to the arrest of his son and by reason

of subsequent illness was unable to appear personally or to

instruct Counsel to make an appeal for leniency on behalf of

his son the said Chong Tong Nie before the General Military Court.

From the record of Committal Proceedings in the Central

Magistracy in the Colony of Hong Kong and from the plea in

mitigation made by Mr. D. B. Evans on behalf of the 1st accused

as appears in subsequent proceedings before the General Military Court established after the re-occupation of the Colony it
